Undergoing a hair transplant can be a complex procedure as the specific amount of hair grafts need to be accurately calculated. To help provide patients with a clear understanding of this process, we’ve designed the following hair graft calculator to help. This will let you estimate how many grafts you may need for a hair transplant in Turkey based on the areas of hair loss experienced on your scalp and any other bald spots. You should note that it doesn’t take into consideration the quality or density of your donor regions, therefore, it doesn’t replace a thorough clinical examination.
The amount of hair grafts it calculates is an approximate and is for illustrative purposes only. The actual amount you will need will vary between individuals depending on the severity of hair loss. If the calculator approximates a 1000 grafts hair transplant, this is just an indication of what will be needed. During a consultation, which you can arrange by contacting us, the doctor will assess your hair loss and provide a more accurate estimate.
How to Use our Hair Graft Calculator
If you have more than one region of hair loss, you should start with one region at a time. For instance, if you are bald in regions 1, 2, 3, and 4, begin with region 1 by clicking on the corresponding area box below. Here you will see a status scale appear to help define how bald this area is. Move the slider across to describe the level of hair loss, from ‘no hair loss’ up to ‘90% loss’. You will see a figure appear in the ‘Graft’ box below this which will indicate approximately how many hair grafts are needed for that area, for example, a 500 grafts crown transplant. The number of hair grafts you will need will increase with the level of hair loss in that region, meaning a 1000 grafts hair transplant in total across all regions is smaller than a 4000 grafts hair transplant. Generally, the more hair loss experienced, the more hair grafts are required.
Once you have chosen the first area, move onto the next by clicking 2, 3 and so on. Once you have filled in each of the 7 areas, you will have a total sum of hair grafts as an estimate. Each individual will vary on the number of hair grafts needed, so without a full consultation with a doctor, it is difficult to say how many are needed. Where one patient may require a 2000 grafts hair transplant, another may require a 3000 grafts hair transplant even if it appears you may have similar hair loss to them. The calculator will also update the 4 head images to represent what each level of hair loss may look like. This is a visual representation to be used as a guide that shows male pattern baldness and should be used for illustrative purposes only. An accurate hair graft calculation can only be achieved once your hair loss has been assessed properly.

500 Grafts Hair Transplant vs 5000 Grafts Hair Transplant
When comparing hair grafts amounts, no two people are the same, but the hair transplant procedure will follow the same rule. If you have extensive hair loss, you can expect to need a higher number of donor hair follicles to help achieve the results you want. Where one person may have a 1000 grafts hairline required, this will differ with someone having a similar hair loss issue as the shape and size of a patient’s head will vary. A 2300 grafts hair transplant will naturally take longer to perform than 1000 hair grafts, so comparing procedure times between patients can differ.
When it comes to the results, as you will see in our before and after gallery, the amount of hair grafts you have doesn’t necessarily affect how natural-looking the results are. If someone has a 2000 hair follicle transplant, because the results are so effective, it can look similar to someone who has had a smaller 1000 grafts hair transplant. Comparing 2000 grafts before and after, you can see a big difference in resolving the hair loss. It’s a testament to the skill and expertise of our surgeons at Vera Clinic in Istanbul, Turkey, that it’s difficult to tell whether a patient has had more or fewer hair grafts than someone else.
Choosing the Right Amount of Hair Grafts for You
As hair loss specialists, we ensure the right amount of hair grafts are needed for each individual’s needs. Our surgeons will recommend a certain amount of hair grafts that will provide the most optimum results. If they feel a 2000 grafts hair transplant, for example, will be sufficient to address your hair loss, they will do so rather than advising too much or too little. Our hair craft calculator will provide our patients with an approximate level as a guide only and it may turn out you need slightly more or less than the figure shown. If the surgeon doesn’t feel you are suitable for a hair transplant in Turkey, they will advise the reasons why.

Hair Graft Calculator FAQs
During the Procedure, 1 Graft Equals How Many Hairs?
The number of hairs per graft will depend on the person, as often your hair will grow in groups of 1 – 4 hairs rather than just a single hair. As an average, many people will have 2 hairs per graft, so if you are requiring a 3000 grafts hair transplant, this could mean approximately 6000 hairs being transplanted. During your consultation, the donor areas of your hair will be examined to determine how many grafts are possible to provide the results you are looking for. Our hair graft calculator will provide an approximate number of grafts so that you can see the difference between a 4000 grafts hair transplant and a 500 grafts hair transplant.
Is a Hair Transplant with Unlimited Grafts Possible?
No, an unlimited amount of hair grafts can’t be transplanted. The reason being is that the average person has only 5000-7000 hair grafts suitable for this procedure. This is why during a consultation, depending on the level of hair loss you have experienced already, you may not be a suitable candidate if there is a lack of good hairs to use in the usual donor areas. If you are unsure how many hair grafts you may require, use our hair graft calculator to get an estimate.
How Do I Know Which Hair Graft Amount Is Right for Me?
As with any form of hair transplant or cosmetic surgery, the only way to know for sure if the procedure is suitable is with a consultation. Our hair graft calculator will provide an estimate based on the information you provide, but this won’t be an accurate number. The doctor will assess your areas of hair loss across your scalp and other balding areas and indicate what the possible results will be. If then a 1000 grafts hair transplant will be enough to resolve the hair loss rather than a 2000 grafts hair transplant indicated by the calculator, they will say so.
